Journaling: What is a Journal?

So you want to start writing a journal but you don’t know where to start. Welcome to the ‘write’ place. the first thing that you need to know is what is a journal and what are the different types of journals out there. Yes, there are many types of journals out there, but only a few of them might catch your interest. So let us begin.

What is a journal?

A journal is a collection of a person’s private thoughts, wishes or daily events that he or she may want to keep as a reminder or as entertainment. When some people hear the word ‘journal’ they automatically think of ‘diary’ and believe that it is something that only girls do. Journaling is just documenting events in your life, writing out wishes or dreams that you may have or even keeping a track of events, contact information or things you need.

Anyone and everyone can write a journal and I believe that everyone should write a journal. Why? There are several reasons why you might want to write a journal. Firstly, one of the main reasons why a lot of people keep journals is to record the events that happened for a day. Many companies that are well-established keep journals for this very same reason. With the recording of events in logbooks, account books and other types of journals, these companies create evidence that these things occurred.

Such journals can be used in a court of law just in case anyone gets sued. However, for us, we may not have to keep a journal for business purposes, but a journal would be nice for keeping track of the foods that you eat, the amount of money that you spend, the things that you need to buy, reminders of numbers or notes of what people said, and most importantly for your entertainment. Yes, journals can be used for that too.

So now that we know what journals are, we are going to look at the various things that can be placed in them, the types of journals that can be created and how to get creative with your journals. In this article (which is a journal entry by the way), you will learn all these things and this will help you to organize your thoughts better.
